Ten TankWoman Tips for a Cleaner PlanetIf you can't bike or take public transportation, maybe you live out in the burbs, or rural areas, where subways and busses don't reach, your next best bet is to go diesel. We lesbians love the sound of that word, but even straight people can appreciate the cleaner burn of diesel fuel, and the money it will save you. Diesel fuel is much cleaner than fossil fuel, but not widely available in the US, at least not today. I'm betting that the demand for diesel engines will increase dramatically in the next several years as crude oil becomes more scarce.
Once you have purchased your money-saving fuel-efficient diesel engine, you can make it more environmentally friendly by mixing your diesel fuel with ordinary vegetable oils. It sounds crazy, but you can even take that leftover stuff from the Fry-Daddy and mix it right into your tank. Bio-diesel is becoming ever more popular as concern for the planet grows, and energy costs rise through the roof. There are many restaurants that pay people to haul away barrels of used vegetable oil. If you own a diesel automobile, phone up your local KFC and ask them if you can pick up some grease, they might even pay you for it.
You know what the best thing about bio-diesel fuel is? When you drive down the street, it smells like a fast food burger place. It's the least you suburban mini-van drivers can do for those of us who are pedalling our fat middle-aged asses off for a cleaner environment.
Aahhhh...the sweet smell of french fries!
