The Gay Marriage Battle In New York

Right wingers fighting the battle against legalizing gay marriage in New York state have introduced a new twist. The BIG right wing Christian organizations figure that New York's lawyers will not be able to pull off an upset victory because they don't know how to fight down and dirty against those who would make marriage between same-sex couples legal.

Liberty Counsel, a Florida (why am I not surprised) based conservative Christian law firm experienced in explaining why not all Americans should be able to marry the person they love has petitioned the State Appeals Court in New York to be granted the right to present arguments in the case. Of course, making money has nothing to do with their request to intervene. Like most so-called Christian organizations, they maintain a store on their Web site so it's obvious that the money is of no interest to them.

It's nice to know there are specialists who can argue for bigotry better than just plain old froth-at-the-mouth northern lawyers. The Florida law firm argues that New York City "will not mount a vigorous defense of the marriage laws." They feel they can do a much better job of it. By way of warning what will happen if they aren't allowed to take over the case they've stated, "The recognition of same-sex marriage would destroy the institution of marriage and harm children." Geeze...I've never heard that before, have you?? Dang!! Let's hope that this time they will mention HOW marriage will be destroyed and HOW children will be harmed. Don't bet the duplex on it though.

You know, it should be very easy for Liberty Counsel to prove that legal same sex unions will destroy marriage and harm children in NY simply by underscoring how this has taken place in Massachusetts. Everyone knows that millions of heterosexuals marriages have been destroyed since the legal right to marry was granted to gay and lesbian couples and enacted in May of 2004. Why people have stormed the Boston Commons, ripping up their marriage certificates in mass demonstrations. And the children, my gosh, straight couples have been selling their children into slavery to avoid having them see the effects of gay people marrying in their towns and cities. You've heard about this, haven't you??

Marriage is such a mockery in Massachusetts these days, the average couple won't even consider it anymore. The state has gone bankrupt, the capitol buildings have been destroyed by earthquakes and lightening strikes and major tsunamis have flooded Boston harbor taking countless lives and destroying billions of dollars worth of property. The only good thing that's come out of it is that gay wedding planners have been put out of business across the state because people aren't marrying anymore. It's a wonder New Yorkers haven't read about this in the papers. It's been on Fox News I'm sure.
