In her delicious wrap-up of the week's follies, our Wonky Muse ends with a quote about the supposed "secret global warming accord" that was signed between the administration and a groups of Pacific Rim countries. I feel a little remiss at not having posted on this event, but the truth is that it was actually a non-event. To cover my lack of coverage I give you blogger "Musing's musings" on this non-event:

It's clear that the Bush administration's plan would provoke withering criticism from any serious environmental group, and also from any climatologist worth her salt and not on the administration's payroll. It puts no caps on emissions, it is purely voluntary, and it was transparently designed to allow the signatories to concentrate more on economic development than on environmental protection. In short, it's the Bush corporatist agenda writ large and given a micrometer-thin veneer of environmentalism.

As Canadian Foreign Minister Pierre Pettigrew told reporters yesterday, according to a Reuters report, "This is progress, but I'm still waiting for the meat. I hope very much that there will be meat."
