Peak Oil SurveyI was at a seriously low ebb when I wrote last night's post. I usually try to maintain a less down and dirty attitude in public. It just flowed out of my fingertips on the keyboard, however, nothing else would do. Today I have something entirely different for you from The Path to Freedom, a wonderful sustainability site that I really need to visit more often. Please read on.....Peak Oil is the simplest label for the problem of energy resource depletion, or more specifically, the peak in global oil production. Oil is a finite, non-renewable resource, one that has powered phenomenal economic and population growth over the last century and a half. The rate of oil 'production,' meaning extraction & refining (currently about 83 million barrels/day), has grown in most years over the last century, but once we go through the halfway point of all reserves, production becomes ever more likely to decline, hence 'peak'.Click here to go to the survey. When PTF publishes the results I will also post them here. And if you live in California anywhere close enough to get to Sol Fest 2005 at the Solar Living Institute in Hopland, by all means do so. This place is like Mecca to me, a place to which someday, and soon, I must make a pilgrimage. If you attend this event and have a blog, please send us comments or links to your blog. Let us enjoy it vicariously. | +Save/Share | | |
