Why is Rumsfeld Still Around?

Lives are being sacrificed every day because of the President's lies and Rumsfeld's incompetence. It makes me angry to read of the Marines who died earlier this week, knowing that we have too few Troops on the ground in Iraq to shut down the insurgency, and knowing that we should have either sent more Troops in, or taken the rest out, long ago.

Midway through our third year of war in that godforsaken country, and the mission is in no way close to being accomplished. There is still no sign that we will ever be able to leave, except in resigned acceptance of the futility of the enterprise. The generals are talking about bringing home some of the Troops next year, anyway. They are planning our exit now -- a year in advance.

Let's hope they put more effort into the final chapter than they put into the first.

Now that the smell of failure is unmistakeable, isn't it time for Rumsfeld to go?

"It is the logic of our times
No subject for immortal verse
That we who lived by honest dreams
Defend the bad against the worse."
