Links for e-Waste Info and Computer RecyclingI guess this is the third part of my series on e-waste, and it's really the best part. Links to organizations and articles that will help us all find a way out of this mess. Please pass these resources on to friends and co-workers. As I find others I will report on them. Feel free to pass along any helpful sources you have also. What to Do with Old Electronics - From the Union of Concerned Scientists, helpful suggestions on ways to give your old electronics a further life, and what to do with them if that is no longer possible. Congress to Explore National E-Waste Standard Under consideration: Tax breaks or up-front fees for consumers who purchase electronic devices. Timely information from PC World magazine on the subject. Electronic Waste Guide: A Knowledge Base for the Sustainable Recycling of eWaste. Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition : The best site I've found on the subject. Makes me wish I lived in California. Tons of information, including list of reputable recyclers. (from the site, this press release: Finally, A Responsible Way to Get Rid of that Old Computer!Electronics Recyclers Pledge: “No Export, No Dumping, No Prisons”) Computer Takeback Campaign: Well, maybe this one is the best site. Okay, it's a tie. More tons of information, lists of recyclers who have taken the pledge to recycle responsibly and ethically. Computer Aid (UK): Their mission is to: - Increase the number of refurbished computers being re-used overseas - increase the number of UK organisations donating their used IT equipment for re-use overseas - identify and work with those organisations in recipient countries able to derive maximum value from refurbished computers - provide training and work experience in computer repair to people from socially excluded communities in our workshops in the UK | +Save/Share | | |
