More on Christians in IraqAs Juan Cole observes, "Although Iraq's Christians are among the oldest such communities in the world, and are indigenous, radical Muslim guerrillas often code them as 'foreign' or allied to the largely Christian American occupiers."I can't find the exact reference right now. But Cole in the past has also noted that if the "Chaldean" Christians are driven out of Iraq, it could accelerate the dying out of Aramaic, the language they use, as a living language. Aramaic was the language spoken by Jesus. That would be one more terrible irony, if the Christian President's invasion of Iraq were to result in the dying out of the language of Jesus. | +Save/Share | | |
