Coming Soon to an American Heritage Dictionary Near YouOn my way home from filling up the Matrix with some politically correct Citgo gas and taking the dog for a walk in the woods near the station, I learned a wonderful new word. On NPR they were having a small townhall chat with some folks from a neighborhood in NO East, on the occasion of this first Mardi Gras since Katrina blew through. The residents were using the word "FEMAtized" to talk about how they felt things were going, and the prospects for their neighborhood ever coming back to life. This is why I am a linguist - I love the way languages are living organisms, growing, dying, changing to reflect the new realities of our worlds and lives. This fine new word seems to mean: "the state or condition of being, or having been, fucked over by FEMA."| +Save/Share | | |
