Hatred is a Disease, Get Some Help

When hatred becomes a thing that is sanctioned by the highest moral authority in a society, and made into legislation by the elected leaders of a nation, it runs the risk of spreading like a bacteria, until it eventually sickens our moral fiber, and we all as a nation begin to accept things that we know are reprehensible, like pre-emptive war, torture, detention without due process, and discrimination. When you legalize homophobia, and legislate language, you leave yourselves vulnerable, if it is okay to hate fags, or blacks, or Hispanics, then aren't you saying that hatred is okay? If it's okay to hate gays, and refuse to communicate to a group of people who already live in our country, are you straight people opening the door to more discrimination, maybe even to yourselves?

(CBS/AP) The city council in Black Jack, Mo., has rejected a measure allowing unmarried couples with multiple children to live together. The mayor said those who fall into that category could soon face eviction.
I found this story on CBS News, and while I worry about it, I also feel like yelling, "There now, mainstream America, how does it feel? How do you like that discrimination thing? Doesn't it make you feel good?" Because if you let this intolerance and hatred go unchecked, pretty soon it will turn inward and you might find yourselves the object of the disdain of your fellow Americans, you might find that you will be denied housing, or denied employment, and you might wish that you had stood up and objected to intolerance, but hey, it was only the homos and the illegals, it wasn't you.

If they can do it to me, they can do it to you.

FEATURED QUOTE

"It is the logic of our times
No subject for immortal verse
That we who lived by honest dreams
Defend the bad against the worse."

-- Cecil Day-Lewis from Where Are The War Poets?
