Breaking News: Rumsfeld GoneGood riddance:President Bush said Wednesday Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld is stepping down and former CIA Director Robert Gates will take over at the Pentagon and in prosecuting the war in Iraq.Bush announced it at his press conference still going on right now. Methinks he's fumbling and fidgeting a lot more than usual. Hmm, could it have something to do with a large helping of humple pie he got served last night? One reporter asked him who's winning his reading contest with Rove. Bush quipped he's falling behind because he worked hard during the election and that obviously Rove didn't work as hard as he did. Heh. Update: Be reminded that as late as a week ago, Bush was vowing to keep Rumsfeld (and Cheney) until the end of his term. So all that noise Bush made at his conference about plans to replace Rumsfeld even before last night's elections results is a bunch of hooey. If he and the Republicans didn't lose or at least didn't lose so humiliatingly, I bet Rumsfeld would still be SecDef. (h/t: Political Wire) Tags:
