Turkee Shenanigans

The White House Turkey Pardon Scandal. It seems broccoli was safer under 41 than turkeys are under 43, pardon or no pardon:

Last year, the president pardoned not one but two turkeys on Nov. 22. The next day he was served turkey as part of his Thanksgiving meal, according to White House documents obtained by TPMmuckraker.

That's right: the menu for the Bush Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 23, 2005, lists "Herbed Stuffed Roasted Free Range Turkey" as its main course.

So maybe "Marshmallow" and "Yam" -- the pardoned turkeys -- didn't get the axe. But some poor bastards did. Is that what we're calling mercy these days? The guilty go free (I assume they were guilty, or else why would they need pardoning), while innocent victims pay the price for their crimes?
Turkee Run. And a bunch of turkeys in Jersey are havin' none of it:

Some wild turkeys, it appears, were trying to get out of New Jersey before Thanksgiving Day. A spokesman for the NJ Transit said train officials reported a dozen or so wild turkeys waiting on a station platform in Ramsey, about 20 miles northwest of New York City, on Wednesday afternoon. The line travels to Suffern, N.Y.

"For a moment, it looked like the turkeys were waiting for the next outbound train," said Dan Stessel, a spokesman for NJ Transit. "Clearly, they're trying to catch a train and escape their fate."

"It is the logic of our times
No subject for immortal verse
That we who lived by honest dreams
Defend the bad against the worse."
