America Says NO, Over and Over and Over

What if, at a designated hour of a designated day, the streets of every city and town in this country filled with the citizens who oppose the continuation of this war, the (even temporary) escalation of troops thrown into the mayhem, the expansion to other parts of the Middle East and Africa? If schools, offices, stores, emptied out? If everything else but protest came to a halt? Would the new Congress we have elected really pay attention then? Would the madmen in the White House, Pentagon, Dept. of State, pay attention? What if we weren't so jaded, cynical, exhausted and aggrieved that we couldn't even imagine it? What if, tomorrow, the day after our Mad King once again offers us his crazed vision of the future, we all showed up at a protest rally to Just Say No, loudly and en masse?

We have the opportunity once again to do just that. It's time for the protests to swell to such dimensions that they can no longer be overlooked by both the media and the Powers That Be. Go to the link for America Says No, sign the petition to Congress, search for an event tomorrow in your area, and show up for it. I often wonder why Americans are so shy about taking to the streets, something that is business as usual in almost every other country. Time to get over our politesse, people, time to stop saying "It doesn't do any good" time to really let it rip. This has gone on far too long, our sons and daughters, nieces and nephews, our grandchildren, cannot continue as cannonfodder for a consortium of madmen's dreams of empire.

FEATURED QUOTE

"It is the logic of our times
No subject for immortal verse
That we who lived by honest dreams
Defend the bad against the worse."

-- Cecil Day-Lewis from Where Are The War Poets?
