Mothers' Day for PeaceIt was my intention yesterday to write on just the Julia Ward Howe piece that Wonky wrote about, before my good intentions turned into a day in Santa Fe: open air art show, great tacos, a walk along the river on Alameda, bookshop and gallery hopping. So, thank you, Wonky, for getting the job done.I am going to add to her post, however, with a link to the site Mother's Day for Peace, where you will find a group which has turned Ward Howe's piece into a video. Her strong and moving words are read by several well-known mothers (for peace): Felicity Huffman, Christin Lahti, Gloria Steinem, Fatma Saleh, Ashraf Salimian,Vanessa Williams, Alfre Woodard, directed by Robert Greenwald, presented as a fund-raiser for the organization No More Victims. No More Victims works to find medical sponsorships for war-injured Iraqi children and to forge ties between the children, their families and communities in the United States. We believe one of the most effective means of combating militarism is to focus on direct relief to its victims This find comes from, where else, Amy Goodman's Democracy Now!, where on Friday she played an audio clip of part of the reading. I drove the rest of the way home with tears of anger, joy, and wonder streaming down my face. Check it out. Mother's Day for Peace, what a concept! | +Save/Share | | |
