Moyers Tonight, A Very Big ShowAs we watch the news of Hurricane Dean, already a Cat 3 hurricane, rampaging through the Caribbean, headed for the Gulf Coast, and read about the intense flooding tropical storm Erin is bringing to already-flood-devastated South Texas, I think that rather than talking about it after it's over, I want to pass along to you right now this morning's email from the U.S. Climate Emergency Council in re tonight's PBS Bill Moyer's Journal , the main segment of which will be Katrina Revisited with Mike Tidwell, author of two important books on coastal hurricanes: Bayou Farewell and The Ravaging Tide. This promises to be a show everyone in the country needs to watch. (Hello, Mr. President?) Here is the text of the email: Tune into your local PBS station tonight, Aug. 17th, at 9:00 to watch Bill Moyers, one of America's most trusted journalists, interview USCEC director Mike Tidwell . Moyers marks the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina with this episode of his hour-long show, Bill Moyers Journal. Since Hurricane Katrina destroyed much of the Gulf Coast on Aug. 29th, 2005, Tidwell has been campaigning strongly to raise awareness of the links between global warming and more intense hurricanes. Tidwell's most recent book, The Ravaging Tide: Strange Weather, Future Katrinas and the Coming Death of America's Coastal Cities, describes in great detail how we are all New Orleanians now. As Texas braces itself against Tropical Storm Erin and August 29th -- the 2nd anniversary of Katrina -- draws near, we hope you will take an hour tonight to listen to this poignant interview. You can learn more of Mike's thoughts on global warming and hurricanes by reading his recent interview in Mother Jones. WHAT: Bill Moyers interview with USCEC director Mike Tidwell. WHEN: Friday, Aug. 17th @ 9pm. CHANNEL: Your local PBS station (check local listings) Technorati Tags: Bill Moyers Journal, global climate change, hurricanes, Mike Tidwell | +Save/Share | | |
