Going To The Candidates' Debate?I didn't watch the candidates' "debate" (Don't you always just hear Simon and Garfunkel when you say, read or write those words? at least if you're old enough to remember Mrs. Robinson, you do.) in Vegas last night (Didn't watch Project Runway either, I'll have you know), but I did read Michael Scherer's very amusing recounting of it in this morning's Salon.com: What you missed while watching "Project Runway"The Democratic debate in Vegas: Fire-retardant pantsuits! Hecklers! Mysterious booing! GOP-style mudslinging! And a bizarre photo op. He almost made me sorry that I missed it..... but no, not really.I'll be on my way to a brief Thanksgiving vacation on the Texas coast: beach, birding, shrimp-eating, heat and humidity, so I won't be able to watch tomorrow's upcoming candidates' forum on energy policy and climate chan ge. The event will beheld in LA, is sponsored by Grist and Living on Earth, with the hope of it being "a critical opportunity to hear from the candidates on their positions and to further elevate these issues in the presidential election." All the candidates, of both parties, were invited, but the only positive RSVP's at this point are Hillary Clinton, John Edwards and Dennis Kucinich, and don't you find that kind of interesting? No Republicans want to make their positions known on what are possibly the two most important issues of this or any other time? And only three Democrats? So, anyway, Grist will have a live webcast of the event, starting at2:00 PM, PST (that's 5:00 PM, EST). Registration to attend the event live and in person at the Wadsworth Theatre is currently full, but you can check out this page to put your name on a waiting list. In any case, if you have access to a computer tomorrow afternoon (as I, alas, will not) do catch the webcast. Is there a faint hope that this time they'll actually say something substantial? In case they don't, or if you'd like to hear the MIA candidates' positions on energy and environmental issues of the day, Grist has a How Green Is Your Candidate page on their website which is well worth a lengthy browse.
