Big Bill Bowing OutThe AP has breaking news that Gov. Bill Richardson (D/NM) will announce his withdrawal from the presidential race tomorrow. He's had two fourth-place showings, in Iowa and in New Hampshire, and I guess he figures the game is up. I don't know why Richardson's campaign never got airlift, as the AP article says, he has one of the best CV's of any of the candidates: Richardson had one of the most wide-ranging resumes of any candidate ever to run for the presidency, bringing experience from his time in Congress, President Clinton's Cabinet, in the New Mexico statehouse as well as his unique role as a freelance diplomat. As a Hispanic, he added to the unprecedented diversity in the Democratic field that also included a black and a woman.I am sorry that he couldn't make the final cut, when I watched the array of candidates during the last set of televised debates it was a joy to see the diversity among the Dems as opposed to the gang of old white men on the Rep side. It is my fervent hope that if we have a Democratic president in November, Richardson will be appointed to a cabinet post, or some other position where his talents and experience will be used to their considerable limits. He's a great governor, but I think he could be better used in a national post. Technorati Tags: Bill Richardson, Democratic candidates, New Mexico, presidential race, | +Save/Share | | |
