Les Fleurs Du MalWell, so Spitzer has just resigned as governor of New York, a little later than the popular spread had him doing it, but resigned nonetheless. Maybe now we can all go back to focusing our attention on which campaign is slinging the worst insults and who should be forced to resign or be fired from which campaign today. Or, one of my fulltime occupations, wishing Bush would get wiretapped in a sexually compromising situation in the Lincoln bedroom or the bed of his truck down on the ranch in Texas, or hey, - maybe The Mayflower Hotel, just a stone's throw from the White House? It's clearly the only shortcoming this country recognizes as serious and/or terminal. Although I personally agree with Nora Ephron, Bill Maher, and Alan Dershowitz on this issue - I said as much when Bill Clinton was under the gun, and see no reason to change my tune now. Sure, Spitzer is a hypocrite, but let's all be honest here and admit with Charles Baudelaire: hypocrite lecteur, mon semblable, mon frère , that we are all hypocrites, or have been at some point, and most likely on this very issue of sexual transgression. Which, yeah, I guess amounts to a confession of sorts. (But no, no high dollar call girls, sorry.)More than anything else I have to fault this guy for being criminally stupid. With all the enemies he's made, with his priggish reputation as"Mr Clean," how could he think he wouldn't get caught? Anyway, I particularly enjoyed Susie Bright's take on the Spitzer case yesterday: "If we could give a truth serum to all parties involved, or wiretap their personal diaries— here's what we might listen in on"... Read her fantasy interview withThe John, The Wife, The Kids, The Pro, The Booker, etc. A lot of truth here in this fantasy Read the rest of Susie's post here.
