Good To The Last Drop?

This little post, McCain: Drill Offshore US For Oil, by David Beard in today's Boston Globe Green Blog, gently illuminates the truth of what Al Gore says in today's quote featured on this, the TBV blog: "The outcome of this election will affect the future of our planet. For America to lead the world through the dangers we're facing ... we've got to have new leadership, not only a new President, but new policies." The dangers we're facing are so multitudinous, and leadership on all of them has been nonexistant to wretched, but for our leadership in the form of the Republican presidential candidate to continue to deny the fact that it is way past time to seek other solutions besides fossil fuels, for both the short and the long term, to our energy dilemma, is simply madness.

Beard quotes James Hansen in his post, saying:

James Hansen, the NASA climatologist credited with providing compelling data on global warming, told a Boston-area audience earlier this month that the energy debate takes as a given that we'll exhaust every bit of fossil fuels in the ground first before switching seriously to alternatives.
He then asked the crowd what I call the Folger's question: Why should we take every last drop? (Emphasis added)
Why in the world would we do such a thing? How blind can we possibly be? This goes beyond denial, and Obama needs to get out front on this particular issue with a serious plan to move us beyond such thinking.

FEATURED QUOTE

"It is the logic of our times
No subject for immortal verse
That we who lived by honest dreams
Defend the bad against the worse."
