We cannot afford four more yearsThis feels like the culmination of the Republican plan to destroy the federal government. Grover Norquist described the goal of the right-wingers, through tax-cuts and other means, to reduce the federal government "to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub."In 2000, before the Supreme Court elected an ignoramus to run the country, we were worried about the deflationary potential of huge surpluses, and the wisdom of paying down our debt too much. Under Bush and the Republicans, we have wasted the surplus on tax cuts for the rich; our national debt has soared and is about to soar even further, threatening our ability to meet our social security obligations, let alone extend basic health coverage to millions of uninsured Americans. Our grandchildren will be sending their taxes to China to repay the Iraq War debt, and to repay the monies borrowed on behalf of Morgan Stanley, AIG and Goldman Sachs. Are Republicans just stupid, or is it a conspiracy? Either way, we cannot afford four more years of these people. | +Save/Share | | |
