The AIG Cluster-FI've been so busy this week, I've barely watched the news, except in passing. I've been busy trying to make some extra money, figuring that if there's money to be made, I'd better be doing it while there's still some work out there. I'm not expecting the long vacation of unemployment, but if it happens, I want to be prepared. While passing the break room at one of my jobs, I caught part of an interview on CNN with Charlie Rangel (D-NY), and whoa, he was getting some nasty questions from the press about the AIG bonus fiasco. I'm not surprised at the amount of public anger over the issue, but I am surprised that the story is not going away. This is not good news for the Democrats, or the Obama Administration. So did Chris Dodd and the President really take money from AIG? I don't think the donations resulted in any inapropriate legislation, but it has the odor of something that's not quite right. I'm know it happens all the time in government that politicians take campaign money from big banks, and then return the favor with legislation. It is how business is done in Washington. It happens everyday on both sides of the aisle. But at this particular moment in our history, I think that if Democrats want to keep a few steps ahead of the game, they'd better listen more closely to the pack of wolves howling just outside the Beltway. It's not fair to blame the President for the current situation. But the Administration needs to learn from this snafu, and play by the new rules, the ones dictated by an angry population. | +Save/Share | | |
