I'll be Ken Starr for a minute, tooLike I quoted the Daily Howler saying yesterday, we're all Ken Starr now.So I'm posting this video of María Belén Chapur, the Argentine girlfriend of South Carolina's Governor, reporting on the 9/11 attacks in 2001. From Argentine woman linked to S.C. governor ducks journalists McClatchy Newspapers 06/25/09. Whatever one thinks about his judgment or morals, this clip suggests the guy has good taste when it comes to picking a partner for "hiking on the Appalachian Trail". Shoot, I'm guessing Buenos Aires is a whole lot more interesting place to live than Columbia, South Carolina! I also found the (Spanish-language) video by Clarín reporter Paula Lugones intriguing, the second of the two videos featured at the article La amante argentina del gobernador Sanford se especializa en Ciencias Políticas Clarín 24.06.2009, in which she carefully explains for Argentine listeners why it would be such a big deal in South Carolina for the Governor to have an affair. She carefully tries to explain the Christian fundamentalist atmosphere of that state. The caption on the video is based on her report, "En un estado ultraconservador, la transgresión del gobernador es como una bomba atómica." [In an ultraconservative state, the Governor's transgression is like an atomic bomb.] I'm going to end this post now before I start sounding like Maureen Dowd.
