Bobby Jindal's sand berms to nowhere

I wrote a few days ago about Louisiana Gov. Bobby's Jindal's games with the BP oil disaster. One of them, which I've started to think of as the Sand Beams To Nowhere project, is coming apart. Literally.

Len Bahr, one of the public critics of the project, has the story in Chandeleur sand berm segment shrinking like a wool sweater in hot water! LACoastPost 07/11/2010. He provides pictures of before (06/25/2010):

And after (07/07/2010):

Heckuva job, Bobby!

But, living as he does in the through-the-looking-glass alternative universe of today's Republican Party, ole Bobby says the fact that they are washing away showed that his sand berms boondoggle worked! Seriously: Louisiana governor says sand berms working CNN 07/15/2010. The Republicans have truly gone postmodern: you just create you own reality. And recreate it whenever convenient.

In the material world, though, at least somebody benefited from getting BP disaster-relief money, thanks to ole Bobby's efforts. That would be the Shaw Group, who got the contract for the boondoggle: The Shaw Group to Provide Louisiana Coastline with Sand Berm Construction Yahoo! Finance (apparently reproducing a Shaw Group press release) 06/04/2010. By what surely is pure coincidence, the Shaw Group also happens to be ole Bobby's third largest company campaign contributor for the period 2004-2010 (Career Profile(since 1989): Bobby Jindal OpenSecrets.org 06/30/2010). The oil industry has been his second-largest contributor by industry group during that period.
