"Eat our peas?" (!!) Metaphors elected democratic leaders shouldn't use

President Richard Nixon, Washington Star-News 11/09/1972:

The average American is just like the child in the family. You give him some responsibility and he is going to amount to something. He is going to do something. If, on the other hand, you make him completely dependent and pamper him and cater to him too much, you are going to make him soft, spoiled and eventually a very weak individual.
President Barack Obama, news conference 07/11/2011:

We might as well do it now, pull off the band aid, eat our peas.

FEATURED QUOTE

"It is the logic of our times
No subject for immortal verse
That we who lived by honest dreams
Defend the bad against the worse."

-- Cecil Day-Lewis from Where Are The War Poets?
