Hiya!

Welcome one and all to the Blue Voice. Wow! A fresh virgin blog! I'm another one of the eight voices here. We've all been slaving away, trying to fight the good fight in the small enclosed world of AOL Journals. Not that there's not anything wrong with that, but we've all felt the urge to try to spread our wings in the great big, wide open blogosphere. Some of us have tried it on our own and found that what we've written has been ignored or overlooked. We decided to pool our resources and work together here to see if we could collectively make an impact in the political discourse that's going on around us. We hope you'll come around often to see what we're up to, and it wouldn't bother us if you told your friends and neighbors about us too.

I live deep in the heart of the Bible Belt, amid a lot of people that don't see anything wrong with teaching creationism instead of science or plastering the Ten Commandments up on any and every public space. Many of these people have drifted over to a Republican Party that panders to these religious notions and finds a new way everyday to screw these people economically. I long for the good old days when the Dems were the party of the working man and the Repubs were the party of conservative values.

I'm a news and political junkie, and I also long for the days when we had a viable media that never let up until they got to the bottom of the story. That may be one of those nostalgic daydreams where the reality is not as great as you remember it to be, but I know that the news media was once a lot better than it is today. The media outlets today are just a small part of large corporate conglomerates who are overly concerned with the bottom line and stock prices.

Some of us here at TBV are concerned with one particular issue above others, like the environment or gay rights. I am interested in anything and everything and never know what's going to catch my attention from one day to the next. I may write several entries a day for several days in a row - to the point where the other Voices here may tell me to shut the hell up and let someone else speak- or I may go a speechless for a few days when I get temporarily overwhelmed by all of the BS that passes for political discourse today. In any case, I think it's going to be a fun ride, so come join us. If I don't have anything to say, I'm sure some of the other Voices here will take up the slack.

FEATURED QUOTE

"It is the logic of our times
No subject for immortal verse
That we who lived by honest dreams
Defend the bad against the worse."

-- Cecil Day-Lewis from Where Are The War Poets?
