"We're FOR war"

Statements like that prove that the problem in America is not that the President lies to us -- it is that so many of us do not care that he does.

The greatest evil in this war is not that it was based on lies and mistakes of fact, nor even that it has been cruelly and illegaly mounted against a people who were not even a threat to our security, but rather that the citizens of this great and powerful nation -- a nation that claims to love peace, freedom and human rights -- can move forward with this war month after month, year after year, with no end in sight and in complete indifference to the human cost and suffering.

When we measure that cost, if we bother at all, we exclude from any serious consideration the price that is being paid in Iraqi blood -- making the casual and callous argument that we have done these people a favor by removing Saddam. Our military refuses to acknowledge the deaths of Iraqis, and we accept that decision like good Germans. We still believe we are doing good in Iraq, and that Iraqis are grateful to us for their liberation from the tyranny of Saddam.

As if we would thank a dentist who, without novocaine, removed our nose and one eye in order to extract a rotten tooth.

Our delusion is not only due to the dishonesty of the President and his FOX propaganda network -- it is the result of our willful ignorance and appalling lack of compassion.

Shame on us.

This woman spoke for much of America -- perhaps as many as half of all Americans who stand with the President in spite of all we now know.

It is truly shameful.
