SplatAccording to Zogby, President Bush's Iraqi pep rally the other night didn't quite give his poll numbers the bounce he was looking for. More like a splat.Bush's job approval rating now stands at 43%, down one point from last week's Zogby poll, and more than two-fifths of respondents (42%) say they would favor impeachment proceedings if it is found that the president misled the nation into the war in Iraq. Surveys were conducted throughout the week, both before and after Bush's prime-time speech, and there was very little, if any, bounce from the pep rally. Bush's approval rating on the final day of the survey period was 45%. Bush still remains strong in the South...well, relatively strong. His approval rating there is at 51%, but the Red States as a whole are beginning to feel some buyer's remorse about the election. Bush's approval rating in the Red States is now at 48%. 50% of Red Staters view his job performance unfavorably. Bush also gets a big raspberry from 25% of Republicans, 86% of Democrats and 58% of independents. Here's John Zogby's summary... The nation continues to be split down the middle but there appears to be a deep and growing concern about how polarized we are. The President tried to address the situation on the ground in Iraq and hoped to allay the fears of the nation. It looks like that did not happen. Meanwhile, opposition to the war reveals that Americans are just as hostile and intense as they were the day after the 2004 election. The message seems to be pretty clear for Mr. Bush: lay off the partisan rhetoric and work to find compromise solutions | +Save/Share | | |
