Bless the Beasts and HumansIt may, okay it does, seem minor in light of all the human death, the destruction of homes and livelihoods that have been, and will be, lost because of Katrina - but I have been worrying about the creatures in the NO Zoo and the Aquarium all week. These are both wonderful facilities, among my favorite places to spend time in NO. But these creatures are our captives, our responsibilities, and I hadn't read anything about them in all the news I have been following. So, it is with great relief that I found the American Zoo and Aquarium Association, which has an update on the Audubon facilities in and around NOLA, as well as zoos in the rest of the Gulf Coast area. The short version is that all the animals are doing okay, the only loss was one whooping crane at the The Audubon Center for Research of Endangered Species. Animal keepers were flown in by helicopter to that facility, and they are also okay. | +Save/Share | | |
