War in Iraq Continues.....Why are we still there? Some have argued we need to stay -- we owe it to the people of Iraq. We cannot abandon them. Those who would stay on need to explain how they will accomplish something more than Bush has done so far. What new ideas do you have? And who will lead the effort -- the same people who are in charge now? Given that you have no power to change the leadership, and no power to impose your new ideas, and frankly -- no ideas, how is your proposal different from letting Bush carry on as usual? Please consider this multiple choice question: If Iraq is still a mess in two years, five years, ten years, twenty years (circle one), I would be prepared to let the Troops come home.I feel badly for the people of Iraq, but if our Troops were not already there, do you really think there is one chance in a million that Bush would send them there now? The only reason the Troops stay is because they are already there -- is that enough of a reason to ask them to risk their lives? Let me ask you -- how do you expect to recruit others to the military when you spend the lives of those who do sign up with so little regard for their sacrifice -- with no plan for success -- and for no purpose at all? The only thing sadder than the way this war started is the way it is dragging on. No illusion of purpose or meaning remains -- only a chaotic and endless brutality that continues because we will not bring them home. Stay the course = More of the Same. And that is blatantly immoral. | +Save/Share | | |
