Kyoto and Beyond, Dec. 3

From my friends at Kyoto and Beyond, and The Climate Crisis Coalition, I have word that this coming week and weekend will be an important time for climate activists. As the news about global warming grows ever more ominous and our government continues to deny and disregard it, as well as disrupt global initiatives against it, citizens must take an ever greater part in campaigning for national action.

December 3rd is to be an International Day of Action to Stop Global Warming, and The Climate Crisis Coalition is organizing two campaigns in which we can take part. On December 3rd the largest North American protest will be at the U.N. Climate Conference in Montreal, and to accompany this there is the USA Join the World! campaign, with local actions in at least sixty locations - even if our government won't do it, WE can join with people all over the worldto organize for this big day.

If you have already signed the People's Ratification of the Kyoto Global Warming Treaty, good on you! If not, here is your chance, and the second of the campaigns mentioned above. You can access the petition and sign it online here, and make the US presence in Montreal even stronger, laying the groundwork for an even more massive drive aimed at next year's congressional candidates' races. The organizers hope to take 50,000 signatures to Montreal next weekend. Please sign and pass this along to everyone you know.

Sister organizations such as Environmental Defense, US Mayors' Climate Protection Agreement, and The Stop Global Warming Virtual March on Washington, will also be there with their petitions. Sign them all! It's hard to have any spare change at this time of year, but if you feel you can, please contribute to this effort by going here. It's the future of our planet at stake, nothing less.

FEATURED QUOTE

"It is the logic of our times
No subject for immortal verse
That we who lived by honest dreams
Defend the bad against the worse."
