One in the Eye for Intelligent DesignOf all the stories over which Democrats today are jubilating, I find this one the most uplifting: Evolution Slate Outpolls Rivals. The story is from Dover, Pennsylvania, site of one of the bellweather cases where a school board wants "Intelligent" Design taught in science classes right along with evolution. The board has been sued by eleven parents "who contended that intelligent design was religious creationism in new packaging, and that the board was trying to impose its religion on students." The case is still ongoing. The entire slate of incumbent school board members was dumped and a new slate, all of whom belong to Dover Cares, was elected. Dover Cares is a group formed by parents and other interested Dover citizens who believe that, sure, go ahead and teach ID, just don't teach it in science classes or call it science. Teach it in elective religious studies classes, where all manner of beliefs can be examined. This is a great victory for people with the guts to do something about what they believe in, and care about. We are not helpless, we do not have to stand by and watch stupidity triumph. This group has shown that the voters recognize real intelligence when it's presented to them. | +Save/Share | | |
