Army wife continues to defend "Support Our Troops" sign

Stacey Kelley, whose husband is serving in Iraq with the Army, continues to fight her white surbarbanite neighbors led by an Iraq War veteran who are trying to force her to take her "Support Our Troops" sign out of her yard: 'Bring it on. The sign stays': A woman declines to compromise in a dispute with the Westchase board over a troop support sign by Stephanie Hayes St. Petersburg Times 03/10/06.

Her homeowners association sound like a bunch of dopes. Sure, her sign may reduce the property values by, what, $10.00 a house?

But they would have been much smarter to send her a notice that the sign technically violated the rules, and that she should think about taking it down sometime.

Now they've attracted the attention of the local press and trying to find a way to back out of it. I mean, what if her husband, God forbid, gets killed or seriously wounded after this flap? You don't have to be a PR expert to figure out how bad that would look.

They just weren't using their heads on this things. I suppose an alternative explanation would be that they're neo-Confederates who hate America, or followers of that homophobic radical cleric Phelps who go around demonstrating at soldiers' funerals about how glad they are our soldiers are being killed. But there's no evidence of that. You don't need a darker explanation when pure bone-headedness explains things fine.

FEATURED QUOTE

"It is the logic of our times
No subject for immortal verse
That we who lived by honest dreams
Defend the bad against the worse."
