Back in the good old days, up until Guiteau and Czolgosz ruined it for everyone, ordinary citizens, office-seekers, people with grievances, even just your run-of-the-mill crank, could walk right into the White House and meet with the president. You could get some face time with your senators and your representative up until quite recently if you were persistent enough. Now, it don't mean a thing if you ain't got that green.
