TBV Feature: Environment May Carry These Races

As we move through the coming months, you will see the above preface (TBV Feature) to some of our post titles. These are pieces in which we mull the prospects for ripping the government from the grasp of the Anti-Everything Republican White House and Congress. Where we post our various versions of wishes, hopes and dreams for a better future, and the ways to turn these into realities.

I am not as heavy a political hitter as some of my colleagues on this blog, and I have to admit that I keep my political vision pretty well trained on environmental legislation and action. There has never, in my lifetime for sure, been an administration and a Congress so determined to overturn previous hard-won environmental policies and to replace them with pro-industry-and-development anti-environmental legislation and loopholes. There is almost nothing more important for our future as a nation, as a people, as a planet, than changing this state of affairs.

So, it was with a good deal of interest that I read this morning's bulletin from BushGreenWatch, Environment May Be a Tipping Point in Several Senate Races. The piece summarizes a League of Conservation Voters briefing, at which it announced a first round of endorsements for some of November's Senate races. They include three Democrats and two Republicans: Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Lincoln Chafee (R-RI), Bill Nelson (D-FLA), Olympia Snowe (R-ME), Bob Casey ( D-PA). As can be seen from this list, all Republicans are not to be tarred with the same brush. The environment should not be, and in some cases is not, a partisan issue. The LCV will continue to vet and endorse candidates, as will many other enviro organizations. I will continue to call attention to these hopefuls, in order that readers can support them in every way possible.

FEATURED QUOTE

"It is the logic of our times
No subject for immortal verse
That we who lived by honest dreams
Defend the bad against the worse."
