Let's Make It HappenThis morning AOL is featuring the news that ratings for not just Bush, but the entire GOP, continue to fall. The article is interesting (and heart-warming to those of us who never held them in very high esteem) in and of itself. But I'd like to call attention to a little polling AOL is doing within the article, Bush, GOP Approval Ratings Hit New Lows: Just 36 Percent of the Public Approves of the President's Job Performance; a quick vote on the answers to four questions. I'm going to give you the numbers on the votes so far, but by all means please go contribute your voice to this poll.1. Which party would you prefer control Congress? Dems 66% 2. Predict outcome of this fall's elections. Dems win both houses 55% 3. How has your opinion of the GOP changed in the past five years? Declined 69% Improved 5% 4. How has your opinion of the Dems changed in the past five years? Improved 34% No change 39% It has been my experience that these AOL polls are often quite conservative, so these numbers are fairly cheering. The Dems' approval seems to me to be simply by default. If they can get up on their hind legs and get to work, perhaps we will actually see the prediction in the answer to question number 2 become reality. Onward and upward, folks! (I have an extra question of my own: Who are those wacko 5% whose opinion of the GOP has actually improved in the last five years? Scary people, I think.) | +Save/Share | | |
