ScarySorry, but anytime the President sends troops somewhere, it scares me. And when they're deployed right here in our own country, it really scares me.I don't live in a border state, but is it really necessary to send the National Guard to Arizona and Texas? It seems really drastic to me, is there something I'm missing in the debate about immigration, or is it something else? My gut tells me not to trust the President, my gut tells me that the issue is not so dire that it can't wait for legislation, I have a feeling that this deployment of our National guard is not about immigration, but about something we can't see yet. My partner A. thinks it's pandering to the nuts in the Republican base, and it makes sense, after all, since if the midterms were held today, the Democrats would take at least the Senate, and most likely cut the majority to nothing in the House. A. thinks that the National guard will be deployed until the midterms, and then sent back into the Iraq rotation once the elections are over. I don't know, but this action of militarizing the border seems a lot like the solution to the imagined threat of Iraq 4 years ago, where problems are blown out of proportion, and the solutions are insane. The results of the solution to the imaginary threat in Iraq were disastrous, and I'm afraid that sending troops to the borders will have bad results as well, and Texas is a lot closer than Iraq. Am I being paranoid? | +Save/Share | | |
