Global Warming Goes Mainstream

Tomorrow, almost 80,000,000 Americans will see a message on the effects of global warming. Parade Magazine, the Sunday supplement to 370 newspapers, is featuring a cover story called "Why You Can't Ignore the Changing Climate." Written by Eugene Linder, the article describes how climate change is affecting you now. A sidebar to the article has suggestions the average person can take to help curb the problem. On the Parade website, they have 25 more suggestions and several useful links, including a "carbon footprint" calculator, information on environmentally friendly products and services, and ways to improve your car's fuel economy. It's not a very thorough article, but it lays out the problem in unequivocable, easy to understand terms.

Parade Magazine is also encouraging you to contact your representatives to urge them to enact a carbon tax and to support the Boehlert-Markey Fuel Economy Amendment, which you can do with a handy, dandy online form letter from the Union of Concerned Scientists. Also, sign the Sierra Club's petition demanding that Congress get to work on a responsible energy plan for the country.
