That Damned Refuge AgainI don't think the Senate got around to voting on this bill in last week's rush to make up for the preceding session of the do-nothing 109th Congress and dash home for pre-election campaigning. HR 5429, introduced in the House by Rep. Richard W. Pombo R/CA (and you may already know how I feel about that guy), titled "The American-Made Energy and Good Jobs Act," (makes you feel good all over, don't it?) has this as its putative purpose:To direct the Secretary of the Interior to establish and implement a competitive oil and gas leasing program that will result in an environmentally sound program for the exploration, development, and production of the oil and gas resources of the Coastal Plain of Alaska, and for other purposes. The Natural Resources Defense Council Action Fund has just been able to get enough money together to create and start to distribute this attention-getting ad: If you'd like to help get this ad on TV screens all across the country, so that the majority of folks (and it is a majority) who want to keep the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge free of the sort of oil spills that BP has had on the North Slope can be reminded to take some action, here's how you can put your money where your mouth is: Save the Arctic Refuge! Help Put Our Ad on TV in All 50 States. The bill will be up for a vote eventually, when Congress returns to "work." So, money to keep the ad on the air will continue to be needed. Tags:
