Election question

As we are inundated the next few days with election results and analyses of voting patterns, here is a question relating to the Ted Haggard, uh, crash-and-burn event that's worth pondering. From Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady, the directors of Jesus Camp, in which the good reverend appears briefly:

If a drug and sex scandal by an Evangelical minister in Colorado Springs can actually suppress conservative Republican voter turnout nationwide - possibly altering the results in several states - hasn't the merging of political and religious interests gone too far?
