From The Absurd Files: What Happened to "Peace on Earth"?So much for the holiday spirit:A homeowners association in southwestern Colorado has threatened to fine a resident $25 a day until she removes a Christmas wreath with a peace sign that some say is an anti-Iraq war protest or a symbol of Satan.I think it's the president of the homeowners association who should be fired. I mean, when did peace become a dirty word? Isn't it a holiday sentiment straight from Luke 2:14, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men" ? Plus her sign is advocating peace, not protesting the war. What's divisive about that? And there's this: Kearns, meanwhile, also said he was concerned about the pagan symbolism of the peace sign. "It's also an anti-Christ sign. That's how it started," he told the Durango Herald.Anti-Christ? Sheesh. If these people knew that Christmas itself has roots in the pagan holidays of Mithras and Saturn, they might catch the vapors and faint from shock. What's next, will the image of a white dove with an olive branch be banned, too? Image: Durango Herald/Randi Pierce. | +Save/Share | | |
