The Sheer Joy of a Good FightLast night Dave broke the news here that Molly Ivins had lost her last great fight; this morning her obit is among the NYT headlines in our sidebar. But her friend and, as he calls himself, co-conspirator, John Nichols of The Nation has this morning published a beautiful and moving piece recalling her lifetime of kicking ass and taking names. Remembering Molly Ivins. He ends with this wonderful quote from my favorite Good Old Girl herself: "So keep fightin' for freedom and justice, beloveds, but don't you forget to have fun doin' it. Lord, let your laughter ring forth. Be outrageous, ridicule the fraidy-cats, rejoice in all the oddities that freedom can produce. And when you get through kickin' ass and celebratin' the sheer joy of a good fight, be sure to tell those who come after how much fun it was" Words to live by, as Molly did, and I'm thinking of tattooing them on my eyelids, as a constant reminder. It'll be harder to see the fun of it now, without her.| +Save/Share | | |
