The Joys of the Free Market

Do you ever think about the people who make your clothes? Do you ever think about the people who actually make the things that make your life possible? Globalization has done a pretty good job of keeping these people in the shadows. The occasional story pops up on the news but I have yet to hear any newscaster explain that capitalism relies on the exploitation of labor.

As you watch the video below try and remember that this country operated on the same principles just over a century ago. We were a third world country before the term existed, and millions of Americans suffered under brutal conditions, starvation wages, and state-sanctioned oppression. The reason you and I have the freedoms we do is because working people struggled and fought for them. The people in this video are no different. They are struggling against powerful systems of oppression.

FEATURED QUOTE

"It is the logic of our times
No subject for immortal verse
That we who lived by honest dreams
Defend the bad against the worse."

-- Cecil Day-Lewis from Where Are The War Poets?
