Stupid White GuysA long time ago, there was the first World War. The Yanks won, and the newly formed League of Nations divided up the spoils of war among the victors. The British got a part of the old Ottoman Empire, because some guy drew a circle around an area on the map, and called it Iraq. The area that was once called Mesopotamia, the cradle of civilization, was now a British colony. The circle, drawn on a map by a near-sighted aide to a general, accidentally included some parts of Turkey and Kurdistan, it included a whole mix of folks who were not generally inclined to live peacefully together. The British were really only interested in the oil, they didn’t have cultural sensitivity training back then, so they figured…Sunni….Shiite…Kurds…who gives a shit? They appointed a King, a guy from Syria who the French were smart enough to exile, his name was Faisal, but it could have been Chalabi, or al Maliki just as easily. The British found some upper-class Baathists to put in charge, they were more presentable that your average Ahmed on the street, and the Brits felt comfortable leaving them in charge.Fast forward to the enlightened year of 2002, when some more stupid white guys decided that they needed more oil, this time, Americans. They loved the Kurds, who were more brutal and organized than your average towel-head, but the Kurds hated the Turks. The Americans gave the Kurds weapons and autonomy, and left them in charge of sensitive regional affairs, not knowing the difference between one Arab and another. The Kurds, heavily armed, and protected by the Americans, launched guerilla raids over the border of Turkey, the country who happens to be a NATO ally, pro-American, and one of the world’s best examples of middle eastern democracy. Turkey, wanting to protect its borders, has gotten permission from Turkish law-makers to launch military action against the Kurds in Iraq. The war in Iraq is teetering dangerously towards a regional conflict that threatens to escalate beyond our ability to contain it, if you can even call it contained at this point. But there appears to be no shortage of stupid white guys, or girls for that matter. A long time ago, there was the first World War. In that war, there was much killing, killing that was committed by all parties. In that war, there were something like 15 million killings, enacted by all sorts of countries. In the second World War there are estimates between 50 and 65 million deaths. In 1915, historians all agree that Turkey killed a million Armenians. It was perhaps, the first tragic human recording of such an event. After all, it wasn’t until the Industrial Revolution, that humans were actually able to kill on a massive scale. The world appears to have ignored this atrocity for 90 years. Is it some coincidence that Nancy Pelosi and Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.), have passed a non-binding resolution this week that actually calls the atrocity by it’s proper name, and uses the G-Word (genocide)? Did they not read the memo about the on-going conflict between Turkey and the Kurds, do they not care about the probable escalation of the Iraq conflict? There are rumors of constituencies of Armenians in both Schiff’s and Pelosi’s districts, but shit…can’t the non-binding resolution wait until the hostilities have abated? They’ve waited 98 years already, what’s a few more? Too late, Turkey has re-called their American Ambassador. I know…I know…these are Democrats. Nanci Pelosi is third in line for the Presidency, and it scares me. The Stupid White Guy (and girls) will be the downfall of civilization as we know it. The lack of any diplomacy or cultural sensitivity on either side of the political fence will result in all sorts of bad decisions and mis-understandings..So history has shown us. It's frightening to admit, not only to myself as a citizen, but out in the open, on the Internet, that the Democrats are not that much smarter than the Republicans. Look....It's not like I'm opposed to any particular religion, I dislike them all. I just don't think I would look my best in a burka. | +Save/Share | | |
