A future nuclear standoff in the Middle East?

The following is page 73 of Anthony Cordesman's PowerPoint presentation Iran, Israel and Nuclear War: An Illustrative Scenario Analysis (Center for Strategic and International Studies [CSIS]) 11/19/07.

Cordesman's presentation is hardly cheerful, depicting as it does scenarios for nuclear war in the Middle East if Iran gets nuclear weapons. But the page above captures the core of what nuclear deterrence is about. It makes the risk for each side too great to initiate nuclear war.

FEATURED QUOTE

"It is the logic of our times
No subject for immortal verse
That we who lived by honest dreams
Defend the bad against the worse."
