Anyone else ticked-off?

Were you as surprised as I was last night to tune in MSNBC for the latest news on the Democratic primaries / nomination race, only to find John McCain delivering a long speech that boiled down to an attack on Barack Obama?

I don't think I have ever witnessed anything quite like this - in my experience, the candidates of the two major parties usually grant one another certain courtesies. Stepping on Obama's big day like this seems to have crossed a line.

Harold Ford commented that he thought McCain made a strong speech, attacking Obama's judgment, and suggested that Obama will need to come back hard in response to what looks to be a theme of the upcoming McCain attack ads.

I thought McCain looked sweaty and vaguely purple in his makeup and lighting. The crowd he had assembled seemed to be about fifty people; their chants and cheers had a South Park quality - like so many robots pretending to be human.

McCain himself barely managed to complete the speech - mumbling and screwing up his lines, then grinning the pained grin one might see on a cadaver in rigor mortis. Worst was his sneering snicker of a laugh - all nasal and nerdy, and utterly joyless.

I thought he was repulsive - but it could just be me. Anyone?
