Empty BootsI posted about this several days ago, but once again I would like to call everyone's (who lives within a drive or short train-ride of Philadelphia) attention to the fact that as part of the city's celebration of this July 4th holiday, the Eyes Wide Open Exhibit will be returning to the City of Brotherly Love. One week from today it will open on Independence Mall, and be on exhibit through July 4th. This article from Philadelphia Weekly Online, Battle Worn, will tell you more about the boots and everything else involved in the exhibit. The article also contains the story of Sgt. Sherwood Baker, a Philly native whose nametag hangs from the 720th pair of boots, and of his mother, Celeste Zappala. Mrs. Zappala, who believes the dead who used to inhabit these boots would tell us that war is not the better path to follow, will speak at the press conference opening the exhibit in Philadelphia next Friday. The schedule for the exhibit is on the EWO site. If you are not close enough to Phila. to see it next weekend, the schedule for its further travels is also on the site. | +Save/Share | | |
