Does The Elevator Go All The Way to the Top?I can't help it! I'm a foodie, so stirring the pot is second nature to me.In Washington it is so hot and humid that going outside today can be hazardous to your health. There is some ominous weather pattern that is holding all of the hot air above the city, and not allowing it to escape. The end result of this holding pattern is a stifling heat that hits you as soon as you leave the air conditioning. The windows on your vechicle fog up and precipitate, even though it's not raining. Forget about make-up, because as soon as you get into your car, it begins to melt in streams of sweat coming from your forehead. If you are rich and live by the Potomac, the stench rising up from that historic river is so foul, that it will cause you to hold your breath until you get far enough away that your olfactories are free from the smell of all of the crap that has been sanctified by the Federal Government in the last few years. It reeks. Since I am forced to be inside on my day off, I of course have sat at my computer all morning drinking Wake The F Up coffee, listening to the B-52's, and scanning the news media for any signs of intelligent life. I found a few believe it or not. Seymour Hersh of The New Yorker has a piece on the purchasing of the Iraqi elections, which comes as no surprise, you can't believe that these guys would invest so much political and monetary capital into this profitable war, and actually allow the Shiites the authority to vote us off of OIL ISLAND. The second story of note, which is much more fun to read, and inspires me to endless speculation, is the one from the LA Times, about a State Department Memo that has special interest for the Special Prosecutor. Basically, the LA Times piece is saying that there was a memo sent to Colin Powell from the State Department containing information about the Niger trip, and Wilson's wife, although it did not name her (WE DIDN"T KNOW HER NAME! HOW CAN WE BE GUILTY OF A CRIME!!!). The memo was taken by Colin Powell onto Air Force One, where it may have circulated to any number of White House officials, including the President. Now the State Department today has no official comment, since after all, it's an ongoing investigation, but some State Department officials have said that the identity of Wilkins wife was common knowledge in the intelligence community, and therefore the need to name her was unnecessary. Our President has squirmed a little today, saying that he will fire anyone who committed a crime, and not, as he has previously stated, anyone who leaked information. So unless the people who are litigating this case find that a crime was committed, it might just hinge on the definition of the word identity. I'm not a legal person, so I won't get into the arguments, but I am still an optimist, and still allowed to celebrate and speculate. If this elevator does go all the way to the top, and the legal people do decide that a crime has been committed, then there's a party I want to attend. Of course, we can already convict them in our hearts and in our minds, because the real crime is not the outing of a CIA agent, but the real crime, spouting bogus and disproved intelligence to justify an illegal and immoral war should not carry the sentence of ten years in prison, but something like 100,000 years in prison for all of the principles who ignored the experts and made us all a willing ( or in my case, unwilling) party to this crime. Let's get this party started! | +Save/Share | | |
