Imagine All the People....This is just a little article about the evil dictator, who (when he's feeling especially frustrated) Pat Robertson would like to see us send in an operative to kill. Titled "Chavez Offers Cheap Gas to Poor in U.S." (Reuters) it's by way of a little wink and a nod to our own governmental and religious leaders - a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, as my mother used to say. Chavez was visiting Fidel Castro, and the two of them seem to have had a little fun at the U.S.' expense - offering to give poor Americans free health care and train doctors free of charge, as well as supplying cheap gas to poor communities. It all sounds just fine to me, I gotta tell ya.My favorite line in the article is this one: "Washington has accused the two leaders of being a destabilizing influence in South America." Washington's idea of a stable South America is one where the teeming masses of the poor are kept under the thumb of the small wealthy ruling class who run the governments, the armed forces, the businesses, and own just about all of the land (can you say "Salvador Allende?" How about "Daniel Ortega?"). Damned straight it would be destabilizing for other Latin American countries to imagine a world where farmers can own their land, workers can elect their own bosses, homeless street kids can get an education, people in poor rural communities can have health care. Could lead to slogans like Viva la revolucion! Read the article here. | +Save/Share | | |
