One Raging GrannyDid I mention that the protesters came in all shapes and sizes? I was surprised to see so many elderly and middle-aged people at the march. The day was very peaceful, and I think there were only three arrests made, all for very minor things. It was very inspiring to find such a large mix of people willing to stand out in the drizzle. I saw many soldiers in uniform as well. I was expecting the usual suspects to show up, the anarchists, and the anti-globalization people, but the diversity and the very ordinary look of Americans willing to spend a day off making a statement about something as important as this made me feel as if we might be making headway. Maybe the light at the end of the tunnel, the withdrawal of our soldiers is within our grasp. I think Americans are not as troubled about the lies that began this war, as they are about a continuing waste of lives and money when our own citizens are in dire need. This outrage will surely translate into votes in 2006. | +Save/Share | | |
