Twas the Night Before Fitzmas.....

This morning, I woke up thinking that maybe my blogging days were numbered. After four years of trying to get someone... anyone to listen to reason about the war, the state of the economy, the lack of integrity in the highest offices in the country, all eyes in the nation are focused on a couple of sealed envelopes in the hands of a prosecutor from my hometown. It would seem that all the labor I have put in for the last four years is finally paying off. The peace marches, the late hours spent on the computer, the research and frustration, might finally result in a little dollop of justice on the platter of corruption and lies.

And so now that the rest of the country has caught up with the underhanded workings of the White House, maybe the work of bloggers everywhere is done? Will the whole ugly truth about the forged documents and doctored intelligence come to light? Will all of the guilty parties be held accountable? This morning I was thinking that I could finally stop worrying. I was thinking that I could take up kick-boxing, or Pilates, or maybe even knitting. I thought that I could take a break from the anger I have felt these last four years, and let the American public take up the fight. I woke up this morning and watched as the news spread from the obscure blogosphere to major newspapers, and eventually to network news, that the gig was up, and the guys behind the curtain of the Presidency, those few that pull the strings that make George move, were being taken out of the picture, and now George might actually have to be the President, he might actually have to learn foreign policy, and speak to more than four people about the decisions that impact the world. I was actually excited about the prospect of leaving behind my anger, and getting back to what I'm much better at, which is humor.

I was in a great mood. The Sox were ahead in the World Series, another example of Chicago guys beating the crap out of some cowboys from Texas. I logged onto the Chicago Tribune, and read the headlines all pretty much pertaining to the Miracle of the Century, the South Siders about to win the World Series. But I scanned the headlines on the front page, and found not one article regarding the indictments that have all of New York and Washington on pins and needles. Could it be that maybe the rest of the country is unaware of the pending implosion of the Presidency? Maybe even my sisters who live in the Chicago suburbs don't know that the crimes committed three years ago will finally come to light, and that justice is about to happen. Come to think of it, maybe they don't even know about the crimes, maybe they are watching (on the small TV in the bedroom, the large TV in the living room is almost certainly tuned into the latest minutiae about baseball and the Sox) HGTV, and thinking about getting rid of that beat-up walnut coffee table in the living room, and replacing it with a sleek glass and chrome oval shaped thing from Ikea. Maybe they don't know. And if they don't know, maybe there are millions of Americans who don't live in New York or L.A, or San Francisco who are equally in the dark. Are these the people who will take over for the weary bloggers like me? The ordinary folks who have now seen the light and are ready to take hold of the steering wheel of the future?

Hmmn...

But I'm sure the Democrats must be getting ready to fill the leadership void. There must be countless meetings taking place right now, plans to grow the economy, some ideas about education, the decline and sky-rocketing costs of healthcare. And there's Iraq. Are the Democrats ready to find a solution to the clusterfuck in Iraq? I'm sure I must have heard some ideas from the Democrats....I thought I did...no... that idea was from a blogger.....uhhm do the Democrats have any ideas? When the guys who pull the strings of the Presidency resign in disgrace, who will actually be in charge? And if and when the Democrats take over the House and the Senate in 2006, what will they do about Iraq? And there is still the problem of a headless Presidency for three more years, Boy George floundering about, surrounding himself with people who adore him, and preventing him from ever becoming a real leader.

Okay, so maybe the work of all of the exhausted bloggers is not completely finished. I was really looking forward to learning Italian, putting down a brick patio in the back yard, or maybe just sleeping at night. But our Fitzmas gifts in the morning are going to be envelopes with only judgment, and we might still find ourselves without instructions on how to extricate our country from one of the most dangerous wars of modern times, and no clear idea about how to assemble our future.

Knitting is sounding really good to me right now.

No subject for immortal verse

Defend the bad against the worse."
