A Long Journey BeginsYesterday Dave entreated all of us, Voices and readers alike, to take to the streets this month to protest the ongoing foreign policy of this nation as manifested by the third anniversary of the war in Iraq. I ardently agree with Dave that at this point we need to take participatory democracy way beyond voting - we need to take it into the faces of those who are making this country's policy. Need to show them that what is happening, in foreign and all other policies, is not the will of the people. Need to do this as a "first step" in the monumental task of returning our country to a semblance of its intended self.Dave gave the URL for the ANSWER site, and asked us to join him in the LA protests later this month. The group with which I have worked is the American Friends Service Committee Wage Peace Campaign, joining now with global and local peace and justice groups in urging opponents of the Iraq war to organize events in their hometowns from March 15 to March 22. This page will give you a directory of events, and a way to register events you may organize, Not One More Death. Not One More Dollar. AFSC is part of a coalition of groups working to end this war, and there is more information on activities and protests at United for Peace and Justice's website. As a war which we were promised would be a brief cakewalk nears its third bloody anniversary, let's take that first step - let's show the administration and Congress what "organized and dedicated protest" really looks like. All over the country, not just in New York, D.C. and L.A. | +Save/Share | | |
